The Saudi Arabian government is planning to expand the railway network by more than 2,700Â km of new lines in the coming years. The new infrastructure will connect industrial areas, cities, ports, airports and logistics centres for rail freight transport. Part of the plans is the Saudi Landbridge project, which will connect the port cities of Jeddah and Dammam via Riyadh with new and upgraded lines. In addition, the expansion of the north-south railway, which is important for mining, is planned. Currently, half of all logistics investments are already flowing into railway infrastructure.
