Czech infrastructure operator SZ has allocated a record budget of around EUR 3 billion for the Czech railway infrastructure in 2026. Of this, around EUR 800 million is earmarked for maintenance and around EUR 30 million for safety at level crossings. The programme includes electrification, capacity expansion, speed increases and the removal of bottlenecks. A key focus is the link to Prague Kladno Airport. The project, costing more than EUR 1.6 billion, has been underway in phases since 2017 and includes modernisation, double-track expansions, electrification, a tunnel between Prague-Dejvice and Prague-Veleslavin, and the construction of a new airport access road. For a further section, SZ awarded a contract to a consortium comprising Subterra, OHLA ZS, Elektrizace Zeleznic Praha and Swietelsky. Other projects include the Hradec Králové junction, for which a construction contract was awarded in October 2025, the upgrade of the Kutná Hora – Kolín line to speeds of up to 160 km/h, the electrification of the České Velenice – Veselí nad Lužnicí line, station modernisations in Cheb and Tábor, as well as the refurbishment of a substation in Breclav. On the Plzen – Nyrany Chotesov line, SZ awarded a contract for 20 km of upgrading. The Brno – Prerov line is being upgraded to double track for speeds of up to 200 km/h.
