The New South Wales Government has shared a first look at the designs of the new stations set to be built as part of the Sydney Metro West project.

The project will double rail capacity between Parramatta and the Sydney CBD and is targeting an opening date of 2032.

Gamuda, Laing O’Rourke and DT Infrastructure will build new stations at Westmead, North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock, The Bays and Hunter Street, with construction soon set to begin.

Early works are kicking off at North Strathfield, Burwood North, Five Dock and The Bays stations this month, including delivery of machinery and equipment, set up of temporary work sites, including site offices, utilities investigations and maintenance, survey works, traffic management and maintenance.

Major station construction is due to start by the end of 2026.

Architecture firms Bates Smart, SAA Architects, John McAslan + Partners, Neeson Murcutt Neille, Stewart Architecture and Aileen Sage Architects are designing the five stations.

The final design for each station will be confirmed following a detailed design process, which is expected to be completed early next year.

“All nine stations on the 24-kilometre Sydney Metro West line will be designed to respond to their unique neighbourhoods, creating welcoming, people-focused transport hubs that improve connectivity and support future growth,” the NSW Government said.

Lendlease, Mirvac and Coombes Property Group were appointed to design and construct Sydney Metro West’s flagship city station at Hunter Street. That work will begin later this year once cavern excavation is finished.

Remaining contracts for Sydney Metro West stations at Parramatta, Sydney Olympic Park, and Pyrmont will be announced by the end of the year.
