Tomorrow,

Amtrak

plans to launch construction on substantial improvements to its Lewistown Station in Pennsylvania.

To be completed in spring 2027, the upgrades will help modernize the station, which is Amtrak’s oldest depot. The station is served daily by the railroad’s

Pennsylvanian

route.

The work calls for:

• building a 250-foot concrete boarding platform for improved accessibility

;

• updat

ing

LED platform lighting and signage to enhance visibility and safety

;

•

creating a

new passenger drop-off zone and two

accessible

parking stalls for improved station access

;

•

installing a

new entrance door and windows for the waiting room

, and a new HVAC system

;

and

•

renovating

a

restroom

.

“As Amtrak continues modernizing stations across the country, improving the customer experience remains at the heart of our efforts,” said Amtrak Vice President of Accessibility

. “The station and platform enhancements at Lewistown will create a more welcoming and functional environment.”

The project is part of Amtrak’s broader effort to incorporate more integrated and comprehensive accessibility measures at its stations nationwide. To date, 19 stations

comply with

the Americans with Disabilities

Act

and another 50 stations are targeted to reach compliance in

f

iscal-year 2026.
