An exciting new partnership with easyJet has been unveiled on the Tyne and Wear Metro, with the airline’s global brand transforming two of the busiest stations on the system.

Monument and Central Station in Newcastle city centre – which see millions of customer journeys each year – have been decked out in easyJet’s instantly recognisable orange colour scheme.

The immersive collaboration includes in-station advertising on platforms, escalators and in the ticket concourse, along with ads on digital display screens and wall panels.

It coincides with the opening of the budget airline’s new base at Newcastle Airport, announced at the end of March 2026, which has delivered a great boost to the region in terms of jobs and opportunities.

Metro is a key gateway for customers heading to the airport to catch one of their flights, Nexus said.

Helen Mathews, Commercial Director at Nexus, said: “It’s fantastic for us to be partnering with easyJet as they announce their new base at Newcastle Airport, which is great news for the whole region.

“Monument and Central are two of the busiest station on the Metro system, making it ideal for global brands like this to execute their advertising campaigns.

“The rebranded Metro stations look fantastic in easyJet’s eye-catching and funky orange colours. It’s a reminder that our Metro system is a great way to travel to the airport to catch an easyJet flight, to one of the 22 destinations they now offer.

“Not only do partnerships like this enhance the Metro station environment for customers, it generates vital revenue for us to re-invest back into Metro to help us meet our running costs.”

The new easyJet base at Newcastle Airport will be home to three of their aircraft, supporting around 1,200 jobs, including 140 direct roles for pilots and cabin crew.

Chris Brown, Head of Marketing UK & Holidays, easyJet, said: “The opening of our new Newcastle base is a hugely exciting moment for both easyJet and for the North East, and this partnership with Nexus allows us to celebrate that right in the heart of the city.

“By bringing our brand to two of the Metro’s busiest stations, we’re reaching customers at a key moment in their journey and highlighting the great choice of destinations now available from Newcastle.”

The airline is offering 86 flights per week to 22 leisure destinations across Europe and North Africa – an 85 per cent increase from last summer. It includes new routes to Antalya, Corfu, Dalaman, Enfidha, Faro, Lisbon, Malta, Nice, Prague, Reus, Rhodes, Rome, Sharm-El-Sheikh, and Tenerife.

Newcastle is easyJet’s eleventh UK base opening, following the launch of London Southend Airport last year and Birmingham in 2024, as the airline continues its trajectory of UK regional growth and offering more direct connectivity and choice for customers in the UK.
