Global Crude Steel Production Climbs 1.7% in June

Global crude steel production reached 155.7 million tonnes in June 2026, rising 1.7% year-on-year as output improved across several major steelmaking regions.China remained the world’s largest producer with 83.7 million tonnes, recording modest growth of 0.4%. India strengthened its position as the second-largest producer, delivering 14.1 million tonnes and a 4.5% increase. The United States produced 7.2 million tonnes, up 3.5%, while Japan’s output rose 1.3% to 6.8 million tonnes.

Türkiye emerged as one of the strongest performers, with production jumping 14.7% to 3.3 million tonnes. Germany also posted healthy growth of 9.5%, while Vietnam recorded the fastest increase among the leading producers, surging 27.5% to 2.6 million tonnes.

However, the recovery remained uneven. Russia’s estimated output declined 3.4%, South Korea slipped 0.9%, and Middle Eastern production fell sharply by 13.4%.Despite June’s improvement, global crude steel production during the first half of 2026 remained 0.7% lower year-on-year, highlighting continued pressure from uneven demand, trade uncertainty and changing regional market conditions.
