WaterVelloe, the India arm of US-based consulting firm Evolution Cloud Services (EVOCS), has invested ₹100 crore to expand the country's digital infrastructure, citing strong growth potential driven by rising demand for data sovereignty.
Company officials said the focus on localised data infrastructure is gaining momentum in India as businesses and investors increasingly prioritise data sovereignty. They noted that while India consumes nearly 30% of the world's data, it currently hosts only about 3% of global data infrastructure.
The investment is aimed at strengthening digital infrastructure capabilities and supporting the development of sovereign data centres in the country.
"We’re seeing local private investors within India recognise sovereignty as important and a big motivating factor to bring in money and use it to build out the infrastructure. We have the skill and expertise and recognise the rationality behind building sovereign data centres and we’re here to help," said Thomas Marcin, CEO of Velloe, EVOCS’s Indian brand.
