WaterYorkshire Water has named a group of consulting engineering firms to a new £80M multi-supplier framework to provide technical consultancy and design for its AMP8 investment programme running from 2025 to 2030.
Contracts are due to start on 1 July and run to 30 June 2030, with the option to extend for up to two further one‑year periods.
The framework was awarded in four lots (one, two, five and seven) and comprises the following:
Lot 1 – technical services for minor packages of work – Appointed firms include Aecom, Arcadis, Binnies, Egis, Jeremy Benn Associates, Arup, Pell Frischmann, Pick Everard and Sweco. This lot is valued at £12.7M.
Lot 2 – technical assurance – Costain and TÜV Rheinland Industrial Services were appointed to provide independent design reviews, audits and readiness assessments. The lot is valued at £4M.
Lot 5 – design partner for complex project delivery – Aecom, AtkinsRéalis, Jacobs, Mott MacDonald, Arup and WSP were all appointed to deliver multi‑disciplinary end‑to‑end design services for larger programmes and complex projects. This lot is valued at £13.3M.
Lot 7 – technical design partner – Arup was appointed as the sole supplier for strategic design capability and digital engineering support in a lot valued at £50M.
Yorkshire Water said the framework will aim to give the firm greater flexibility to call on both small and large packages of design and assurance work as projects progress through feasibility, design and construction.
One of the most significant schemes within the programme is the Kielder Transfer Strategic Resource Option (SRO), which is exploring how water can be transferred from the Kielder Water reservoir to support both the United Utilities and Yorkshire Water regions.
Other projects within the framework include Bradford Water Supply Resilience (Chellow 2), a pathfinder project helping to shape Yorkshire Water’s approach to developing and delivering major infrastructure schemes, South Yorkshire Sources, a strategic water resource project being developed to replace the Upper Derwent Valley supply and strengthen long-term water security in South Yorkshire, and Nottinghamshire Mine Water Treatment, which is exploring the potential to treat mine water for public supply.
