Tenaris is proceeding with a $305.9-million project to modernize and expand its Sault Ste. Marie Industrial Centre, supported by a $76.2-million federal investment through the Strategic Response Fund, according to a federal government release.

The project will see Tenaris install new equipment, increase automation and upgrade existing production lines at the facility. The company says the changes are expected to improve efficiency, expand capacity and support the production of high-spec seamless tubular products for oil, gas and industrial applications.

Tenaris will also introduce advanced technologies and digitalization as part of the upgrade. According to the government, the project is intended to strengthen domestic supply chains and reduce reliance on imported steel products.

Tenaris says the investment will support more than 1,000 jobs over the course of the project.
