LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ
– STV today announced that the New Jersey Department of Transportation (NJDOT) selected the firm to provide final design services along Route 33 in Mercer and Middlesex counties.
As part of this project, STV will focus on extending roadway life along a key regional connector and improving pedestrian accessibility in compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The 7.5-mile project spans Route 33 from Deerwood Drive to Perrineville Road and Prodelin Way, through Hamilton, Robbinsville, East Windsor and Monroe townships, as well as the Borough of Hightstown. NJDOT identified the corridor as a high priority due to deteriorating pavement conditions, drainage deficiencies, reduced ride quality and safety concerns.
“Route 33 is a critical connector for central New Jersey, and this project is about making it safer and more accessible for everyone who uses it,”
said
Michael Grantner, engineering director at STV
.
“Our design modernizes pedestrian infrastructure at 133 curb ramps, bringing the corridor into alignment with current accessibility and safety standards.”
Planned improvements will mill and resurface the main travel lanes and shoulders and reconstruct the pavement at full depth in select areas where the roadway has reached the end of its service life or requires drainage upgrades. The project will also enhance pedestrian safety and intersection accessibility by installing accessible pedestrian pushbuttons, high-visibility crosswalks, upgraded pedestrian signal heads and enhanced intersection lighting, along with drainage and guiderail upgrades that meet current standards.
The final design is scheduled to start in February 2026, and construction is expected to begin in summer 2028.
