Renfe, Spain’s state-owned rail operator, will make over 21.6 million seats available on its trains for the 2026 summer season. The offer covers the period from June 30 to September 15 and includes high-speed, long-distance, regional, and international trains.

Renfe is announcing an offering of over 21.6 million seats for train travel this summer, in response to the increased demand generated by the vacation season. Seats are available on the AVE, Avlo, Alvia, Euromed, Intercity, Avant, and Media Distancia services, as well as on the AVE Internacional.

On high-speed and long-distance trains, the company is increasing its capacity by over 100,000 seats compared to last year. In total, commercial high-speed and long-distance services will exceed 8.9 million seats on Spain’s main rail corridors.

According to Renfe, the most sought-after destinations for the summer of 2026 are Valencia, the north of the Iberian Peninsula, and Andalusia.

On the southern corridor, connections to Málaga and Seville stand out, with approximately 635,000 and 552,000 seats available, respectively. A significant number of seats is also planned for the Madrid–Alicante route, with over 410,000 seats.

The connection to A Coruña, a city in northwestern Spain, offers nearly 382,000 seats, supported by trains from the 106 series, which have the highest capacity among Renfe’s long-distance services.

For public services, Renfe offers nearly 12.8 million seats on Avant and Media Distancia trains, which provide regional and interregional connections throughout Spain. Added to this offering are the Cercanías and Rodalies commuter services.

The company is also increasing the capacity of its Avant trains—its high-speed medium-distance services—with an offering of over 3 million seats during the summer.

The most popular medium-distance routes are Madrid–Segovia–Valladolid, Madrid–Toledo, and the Madrid–Puertollano line.

Renfe is once again relying this year on the government’s Verano Joven program, now in its fourth edition. The program allows young people between 18 and 30 years old to travel at a reduced rate between July 1 and September 30, 2026.

Discounts are 50% on high-speed AVE and Avlo trains, as well as on long-distance services, with a cap of EUR 30 per ticket. Young people receive the same 50% discount on Avant trains and discounts of up to 90% on other Media Distancia services and metric-gauge lines.

In addition, young people enrolled in the Más Renfe or Más Renfe Joven loyalty programs can receive a free trip if they take at least two trips as part of the promotion on AVE, Avlo, or long-distance trains.

In the 2025 edition, Renfe sold over 4 million discounted tickets to young people, 56.71% more than in 2024. This increase amounted to over 1.4 million tickets.

Renfe emphasizes that it has the most extensive network of destinations and service frequencies in the Spanish rail sector and that it plays a central role in connecting small towns with major cities.

The operator also states that it is the only one that guarantees alternative transportation options in the event of network disruptions, ensuring that passengers can reach their destinations.
