The Fayetteville Outer Loop forms part of the Interstate 295, reducing travel time between Fort Bragg and surrounding communities.

Estimated to cost $1bn by the NCDOT, the project included multiple highway sections with interchanges, overpasses and roadway improvements.

The Havelock Bypass is on US Route 70, connecting Morehead City Port to Raleigh, starting from north of the Havelock city limit and extending south through Carteret and Craven counties.

Balfour Beatty built a 16km-long, four-lane, median-divided highway, plus 15 bridges which required 5.8 million cubic yards of borrow material and 288,000 tons of asphalt.

The $323m bypass offers a high-speed alternative to a roadway hindered by numerous traffic lights.

Drew Cox, NCDOT eastern deputy chief engineer, said: “These projects help improve traffic and freight movement along critical connections to our state ports and military bases and will assist economic development in eastern North Carolina’s rural areas.

“We look forward to seeing the benefits these projects have on their respective regions for decades to come.”
