A major traffic switch will enable the next stage of works on the Ballan Road Intersection Upgrade in Wyndham Vale, with construction set to move onto the southern half of one of the area’s busiest intersections.

Traffic changes and temporary road closures will be in place between 18 and 22 June as crews shift vehicles onto newly constructed lanes and relocate barriers to facilitate the next phase of works.

The project is designed to improve traffic flow, reduce congestion and enhance safety for motorists, pedestrians and cyclists travelling through the Ballan Road, McGrath Road and Greens Road intersection.

From 22 June, McGrath Road north will reopen with left-in, left-out access only, while Greens Road and McGrath Road south at Ballan Road will remain closed until early 2027 as construction progresses.

The traffic switch marks a significant milestone for the project, allowing works to begin on the southern section of the intersection while maintaining traffic movements along Ballan Road for most of the construction period.

To facilitate the change, Ballan Road will close between Bolton Road and the Ballan Road, McGrath Road and Greens Road roundabout from 8pm on 18 June to 5am on 19 June for preparatory works.

The closure will then continue from 8pm on 19 June until 8pm on 21 June while crews remove existing asphalt and lay new pavement.

Detours will be available via Bolton Road and Greaves Street North for Werribee-bound traffic, and via Greens Road, Armstrong Road and Manor Lakes Boulevard for Manor Lakes-bound traffic.

From 8pm on 21 June until 5am on 22 June, the Ballan Road, McGrath Road and Greens Road intersection will be fully closed while crews relocate barriers and complete line-marking works.

From 22 June until early 2027, Ballan Road will operate with one lane in each direction, the temporary roundabout will be removed, and McGrath Road north will reopen with left-in, left-out access.

Access to nearby homes, businesses and essential services, including Wyndham Vale Healthcare, the local pharmacy, 7-Eleven and Ultra Tune, will be maintained throughout construction.

Temporary pedestrian and cyclist detours, crossings and updated signage will also be in place to help people move safely through the area.

Public transport services will also be affected, with bus routes 190 and 191 operating detours and some stops temporarily closed.

Motorists and public transport users are encouraged to check travel conditions before commencing their journeys.
