Inter IKEA Group recently announced the establishment of a new entity, IKEA Product Development Centre India, as part of its efforts to strengthen its presence in the country and enhance local product development capabilities.

The new company will support the development of affordable and well-designed home furnishing products for customers in India and global markets. It will work on behalf of IKEA of Sweden, the company responsible for developing the IKEA product range.

"India has been an important sourcing market for IKEA for more than 40 years. To further increase local sourcing and develop unique, well-designed home furnishing products in India for both local and global customers, Inter IKEA Group has established a local company, IKEA Product Development Centre India," the company said in a statement.

According to IKEA, the centre will leverage India's manufacturing strengths, supplier ecosystem and product development capabilities to create products tailored to both domestic and international consumers.

The company said the new entity will collaborate closely with the supplier base in India and draw on the country's diverse production capabilities, ranging from highly automated manufacturing facilities to artisan-led craftsmanship.
