Transport Canada Seeks Applicants For Rail Safety Funding

yesterday announced the launch of two calls for funding applications under the

Rail Safety Improvement Program

involving education/awareness

efforts

and infrastructure, technology and research projects

Th

e

funding opportunities

will support projects that improve safety at

grade

crossings and along rail

corridors, helping

to

prevent

trespassing and rail-related

injuries and fatalities

, Transport Canada officials said in a press release.

Funding

applications

are due

Aug. 2

for

education/awareness initiatives

,

and

Sept. 4

for infrastructure, technology

and

research

projects

.

"The Rail Safety Improvement Program helps communities across Canada address safety concerns and raise awareness about the potential dangers at railway crossings and other high-risk areas along railway tracks

," said Canada Minister of Transport Steven MacKinnon

.

"

Through investments in infrastructure, innovation, research and education, the

overnment of Canada is helping reduce risks [and] strengthen the transportation network."

Since

its

inception

in 2016,

the Rail Safety Improvement Program has supported more than 1,200 projects across Canada

with

more than
