Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) has issued a request for selection (RfS) for the development of 450 MW/900 MWh standalone battery energy storage systems (BESS) in Gujarat under tariff-based competitive bidding. The tender is supported under the Phase-IX viability gap funding scheme, with financial support of Rs 1.8 million per MWh.

According to the tender guidelines, the standalone BESS will be supported through a power system development fund-backed scheme and will be connected across 10 substations. The planned infrastructure offers a cumulative evacuation capacity of around 800 MW. Furthermore, the BESS will be developed on a build-own-operate basis and provide energy storage services to GUVNL on an on-demand basis to support state distribution companies during peak and off-peak demand periods. GUVNL will sign battery energy storage purchase agreements with the successful bidders.

Additionally, the BESS will be connected to the state grid and will draw power from and inject power into the Gujarat Energy Transmission Corporation Limited network in accordance with dispatch instructions issued by the State Load Dispatch Centre in consultation with GUVNL. The bid submission deadline is July 13, 2026, while technical bids will be opened on July 17, 2026.
