railwayThe Moldovan government has submitted a draft law that serves as the basis for allocating EUR 15 million (MDL 300 million) from the 2026 state budget for the development and modernisation of the railway sector. The bill lays the groundwork for the signing of two key multi-year contracts for the management of railway infrastructure and the operation of passenger rail transport. The contracts can be signed even before the restructuring of the state railway CFM is completed. According to the government, the regulation prevents delays in financing and ensures further investments in the maintenance and repair of the network as well as in the expansion of passenger rail transport. In addition, the draft introduces the possibility of co-financing modernisation measures to use public funds more efficiently and mobilise additional investments. Simplified procedures for adopting certain European railway regulations are intended to facilitate alignment with EU standards and accelerate the opening of the passenger rail transport market to additional operators.
